
The Cougar Aquatic Team is a non-profit competitive swim team, affiliated with the Haddam-Killingworth Recreational Department, and recognized by USA Swimming Inc. The team practices at the Haddam Killingworth High School pool and competes at several locations and colleges around Connecticut and New England. CAT is governed by a Leadership Committee made up of parent volunteers, and has a staff of two coaches, both USA Swimming Inc. registered and A.S.C.A Certified. The team consists of swimmers ranging from 7 to 21 years of age and provides training programs for the development of age group swimmers, as well as senior and elite swimmers. Individual needs and goals are given careful consideration, therefore swimmers are grouped based on ability, age, and goals. The Cougar Aquatic Team is open to swimmers with the desire and determination to succeed in a sport strongly dominated by outstanding student athletes.
Founded in 1985, CAT remains an active team promoting physical, social, and emotional development. Participating swimmers are from a varied demographic area. In accordance with USA Swimming, CAT provides both a short course season (September - March) and a long course season (April - August).
Requirements and Qualifications
Participants need to be competent swimmers with the desire and determination to succeed in a sport strongly dominated by outstanding student athletes. The coaching staff provides training sessions 7 days a week with incorporated dry land training sessions. The number of practice session required depends on age, ability, and goals of the individual swimmer. Parent participation in the club organization is essential. All swimmers are prepared and encouraged to participate in sanctioned competitions selected by the coaching staff.
